Perkins Direct Inject or Regular?

My MF203 has serial number 659000188 which makes it a 1961 model. The injectors come in at an angle, not straight up and down.I have an original parts manual and it claims serial numbers BEFORE 659002115 are "Regular" Diesel Engines. After that number are "Direct Injection". Talking with my local dealership they tell me the ones that come in at an angel are called Direct Inject, which is opposite what the book tells me. Is the dealership wrong on this one?

That is odd to me. The book clearly states my serial number should be a "Regular Diesel". I wonder if the engine got swapped out sometime in this tractors past?

It's very possible the engine was swapped out with a newer engine with direct injection. On industrial/construction equipment its pretty much standard operating procedure to just swap the engine out for the fastest fix. On industrial/construction equipment the longer it sits, the longer its not making money.

The engine is a three cylinder Perkins Diesel. None of the numbers on the block seem to match up with any literature I have. Starting from the top of the block and working down these are all the numbers:
CL1869808
MONOCYL
E 18 1
C37111280
GKN1523

I have the service manual for the AD3.152 and it clearly states the engine serial number is stamped on the left hand side of the block by the top and beginning number was 2300251.

On my engine in that location the number stamped is CL1869808. I wonder what serial numbers the regular injection blocks started with? Unfortunately I do not have that manual to look it up.

The service manual I have says the number is on the right side of the block.

Thanks.
I found the serial number. It turns out the bottom half of my engine is the A3.152 but the top half has been converted to direct
inject (AD3.152) at some point.

In order to convert regular to direct injection the pistons were probably replaced also as the pistons are also different. Someone must have rebuilt the engine, and found that the original head had a crack in it. The (indirect) regular injection head is probably more expensive, and or hard to find so it was probably cheaper, and or easier to just convert it to direct injection.
