Ok I have a 65 that had a bad head, cracked and ruined.

replaced with aftermarket head.

have replaced head gasket 2x. Never used tractor.

front cylinder toward radiator looses compression out the side of the engine (standing behind left side)

any ideas?

perkins head gasket. torque to 65#

I'm not familiar with this engine, however, I have assembled many engines were the amount the Cylinder SLEEVE protrudes above the ENGINE block is critical.
Check to verify if there is a MIN/MAX as to the amount of protrusion, above the DECK /TOP of BLOCK that the SLEEVE is allowed to protrude, and, what the amount MIN/MAX of sleeve protrusion is allowed between to adjacent sleeves?
 
Sounds like a previous blown headgasket/cracked head may have burnt a flame path across the top of the sleeve. Check tops of sleeves for any signs of the lip being eroded low. A nice flat hone stone works well to determine this.
