Massey 44 Intake icing

I am working on a Massey 44 1951 with the 4 cyl Continental engine, while running the intake has frost on it just above were the carb attaches, haven't seen this before, the temp here is 47 and some humidity.Any Ideas? Thanks

When the humidity is high, most Gasoline Carbs when flowing high air Volume shall show signs of FROST. This is normal, as an increase in velocity results in a DECREASE in Temperature.
I was a Mechanical Tech./ Power Engineer for a NATURAL GAS Pipeline.
I noticed, when the 2000 HP V-12 Ingersoll Rand KVS FT Models were working at max, the out side of the 20" diameter intake piping would form condensation at the transition point from 20" to 36". The increase in velocity resulted in a DECREASE in Temperature. The humidity in the air would condense on the piping.
We also ran General Electric Turbines, 15,000 HP "J79's/LM1500".When the humidity was high with the ENGINES producing 15,000 Hp we had to be cognisant of ICE build up on the Bellmouth and Plenum intake. The increase in velocity results in a DECREASE in Temperature. This condensate problem was pretty much rectified with the installation of DRY FILTER MEDIUM, and doubling the size of the air intakes. Filters were an automobile type dry paper air filter. There were 150 filters,3" tall 12"O/D.

Nice to hear from someone that has worked on the KVS, we automated a group of KVS and KVT in Minnesota two years ago and a batch of KVT's in Oklahoma this year.

Had trouble with Farmall B that would do the same thing. I made a jacket that goes around muffler and a tube going to air intake stack. It pulls warm air from around muffler. Tractor runs like it does in summer and it can be below zero.
