carb gasket

does anyone know what is the purpose of a round brass ring about 1 inch long attached to the main gasket that is in the middle of a Marvel- schebler carb? . i have replaced it with a regular gasket and now it doesn't want to pick up gas at start-up. Its an 202 massey

This is the venturi of the carburetor. Only goes in one way, but without this the carb does not create vacuum to pull the fuel from the bowl. Definitely need that back in there.

Attached to the gasket OR a double trumpet-shaped brass device that is positioned with one end above and the other below the gasket when everything is fastened back up?

just what you said. it was above and below the gasket. i thought it was part of the gasket. it was a moment of stupid on my part. thanks
