MF65 Ignition

I have a MF65 I am restoring. I have the shop manual but I've run into a problem with the ignition wiring. My tractor has an ignition switch (three post, four position - O, I, I/L, L), Momentary push button starter button, a three post solenoid, and a coil. My manual doesn't have all of these components. I've got the wiring pretty much done except for tying all four of these pieces together. Anyone have the same setup willing to lend me a hand?

The four position switch is off, Ignition on, ignition and lights on, and lights on only. Should be a battery terminal, ignition terminal, and a light terminal on the switch. There's also a hot wire needed from the push button switch down to the safety start switch, then to the starter solenoid. The coil plus terminal goes to the ignition terminal and the minus terminal goes to the distributor. The starter solenoid has two heavy terminals, battery positive to top and a heavy wire on the same terminal that goes to the ammeter, then other ammeter terminal goes to ignition switch. Other heavy solenoid goes to starter.

"other ammeter terminal goes to ignition switch" This wire primarily goes to output of alternator or generator regulator. This wire from alternato/generator through ammeter to battery cable at solenoid is charge circuit.

If tractor has a generator with 4 post regulator the switch power should come from L terminal on regulator.

If it has an alternator, switch power may come from alternator side of ammeter. If it is a conversion from generator to alternator the ammeter and L wires might be tied together at alternator.

go to fergusontractors dot org, then to Resources, then to Electrical Diagrams. At bottom there is diagram for MF 65 gas with generator and 4 terminal regulator

Was thinking he has the generator like original, not alternator. On any ammeter one terminal has both the charge and load while the other post has the battery feed only, so all load or charge will show on the gauge. Hope this helps..

Don't leave the neutral safety switch out of the rewiring process. I bought a 65 that someone had rewired (poorly)
and bi-passed the neutral safety switch.....bad idea. I added it back into the system..it was easy.
It can save your life.
