I resently bought my first tractor and it hasn't been started in years,
so I changed the cap, rotor, plugs & wires, reworked the carburetor, and completely rewired the old girl. My problem is I can't get her to start I get it to turn over, it is popping out the exhaust, and just won't take off. I have adjusted the disributor adv, ret. But won't pick up. Please anything helps

Last Engine I seen that happen the distributor was not wired for the firing order. The fellow did not know the direction the rotor turned ...CCW? or CW?

Any engine that has sat for years needs a good ATF treatment to start with due to sticking rings and valves etc never parts with out trouble shooting first.

Had a similar problem with an FE35 Grey and Gold just recently . Turned out to be two adjacent valves stuck open . Just wouldn't suck in enough fuel mixture to start . Popped and farted a treat ! Glad it didn't start or it would have bent push rods .
Simple to fix if it is , rocker cover off and a soft hammer and pair of padded vyse grips along with penetrating oil to gently persuade them to move .

I changed the cap, rotor & ect because the were either non functioning or broke, the wiring was a bunch of wires that were added together to get length and would short out. Carb had dirt in it because the boots were dry rotted I try to only replace what is needed. I still have to get a new radiator because this one is missing. And all hood and grill is missing.

yea I had a couple valves sticking when I was rotating it to double check the timing I tapped on them with the wood handle of my screwdriver

As it sits right now I would do an ATF treatment to it. Fill the cylinders with ATF and if it has a vertical exhaust pour ATF in the exhaust till it starts to run out some place and let it sit a few days that way. Put the plugs back in so that ATF will do more then just fill the cylinders when you pour it in the exhaust. Then after a few days pull the plugs out and spin it over. Then I would hot wire it and see if it will try to start or start. If it starts then at least you know it will run and maybe the wiring is a big problem

I will probably try that next, it try to start now but doesn't catching sits there and pops when I'm turning it over. I don't know much about these carbs but I think the mixture is way off like the Jets are wore out. I adjusted like one of the utubers said but doesn't feel right to me.

sorry if it takes a min for me to reply I'm working nights this hitch and in the middle of no where so please forgive the delay I will reply. I am also going to go ahead and buy a compression tester and I am looking for a set of 14.9x28s for it as well.

Disconnect the air cleaner hose , or better still take off the carb and crank it over. While it is cranking put your hand over the inlet manifold flange or carb air intake and feel for suction . It should really suck . If it doesn't then the bores may be dry , try some oil in them to improve sealing , otherwise there maybe a valve adjustment or sticking problem .

I tried that I took the air cleaner off and thought mabe it was getting to much air so I put my hand over it or restrict the air flow and it tried to take my hand. So suction should be good. Wouldn't that make the compression good also?

Most probably , so why are the plugs still dry ? Back to the carburetor . Try spraying easy start or ether while cranking , this just might make it fire enough to keep going . Do this without the air cleaner if you can .
