Massey Ferguson 35

I need to add some hydraulic fluid to my 1962 Massey Ferguson gas tractor. I just need to know what type of fluid for theses and where to add it at. I'm assuming you take out the big bolt there by the gear shifters but I thought I'd ask first. Thanks

Yes. The large nut to the left of the gear shift is the fill plug. Use GL-1 90wt. mineral oil (not gear oil). The TSC stores sell it.

Hi Gary,
I would have to pose the question here that is a mineral oil suitable for a tractor transmission? Does the container specify that this particular oil is suitable for the transmission of an older tractor?
A universal tractor oil will have a number of components formulated into it;
To work correctly within its specified temperature working range for general lubrication.
Not to gel or become too thin and therefore reduce the efficiency of the hydraulic system.
To cope with 'extreme pressure EP' loads such as the gearbox and crownwheel and pinion and fulfill its lubrication role efficiently.

I'd be interested to know.

My manuals for both my MF 35 and TO 35 recommend straight mineral oil, SAE 90 if temperature is +50F and SAE 80 if below that temperature. GL-1 seems to fit that bill according to other respondents on this site.

Hi, thanks for that.
Most universal tractor oils in the UK are 10w-30 or 15w-30. The word 'mineral' is not used very often in their sales description.

Cheers
