Massey 1080 with a rod thru the block

Hey guys looking for some advice regarding the Massey 1080 tractor. This tractor is just down the street from me, was running while baling hay but then threw a rod. Transmission was recently repaired. The owner is looking for an offer for the tractor. Scrap price in my neck of the woods is $15 per ton delivered, I know the tractor is worth more than that. What would you pay for this tractor non running?

looks like the rest of tractor is a good parts donor if nothing else. Those Perkins rarely give out, but the 'arsends' do. I agree that a grand is a fair price for both of you, but you will be the one hunting and waiting for an engine, or part's buyer...
thrown rods can 'sometimes' be repaired... kinda depends...

I'd grab it for $1000 to $1200 and try to find an engine. You can always part it out. I've had good luck fixing up old tractors. Sometimes you just have to hunt and be patient to find the parts you need.

I don't want no nappy ol propane 175 from outta some MF 65 from beyond the grave.... on second thought...
This is a good corn silage chopper tractor for up north, no sense junkin it. There might be some parts yards on both sides of the border with an engine - or engine parts- that fit

How much for the engine & what is the condition, hours, ect? I'm not worried about the shipping so long as you are able to strap it to a pallet and delivery it to the chosen freight terminal.

i have one won't part with it, most dont know what they have for a machine, used them in the 80's at macdonald college in montreal, for almost anything...weak rear ends ..herad that but myself pull a kniverland plough with mine a 4 by 14...works well, dont go like blazes as never do....disc & cultivate with mine & opertae a 1037 hyd bale wagon...replaced clutch, hyd pump, pwr steering pump & motor, 4,800hrs on mine....should be able to get parts, rod did not penitrate block..then it should not be an issue, if it did, well work just got bigger of course you know this..means complete tear down of doner engine & re-build all of it....pumps, liners & beraings....good luck , its in good shape..to young to be scrapped.
