MF 65 Brakes

Any tips on replacing brakes on 1958--65? I read manual on replacing disk. Sometimes someone with experience has better info. The brakes are worn out with no adjustment left. Any help appreciated.

Complete axle housing assembly removed, then the two plate screws removed so plate can be removed for disc and actuating unit removal. Seal in plate should be replaced, it's most likely leaking anyway..

First thing I'd say is to take only one side apart at a time or you'll end up with the differential in the bottom of the case. Those trumpets are heavy so have help or a good lift or better yet both. Seals and gaskets while you're at it. Not a bad job.

Sounds hopeless. If I was you, I would drag it across the river and let some poor okie waste his time tearin it apart. Please fill it with some propane first..... I don't know how!!!

The old tractor was to good to take PS off. I need a MF65 to go with all my Ferguson's. LOL You always need another tractor. I ordered all seals and gaskets.

That sounds like work. Work is a four letter word and I don't swear..
Instead of draggin it across the Red River, maybe you should take it across the Rio Grande and pay some Mexicans to do the brakes....
you might as well start taking it all apart for a redo.... or maybe not.....

Take those huge heavy wheels and tires off to get that huge diff apart to get to consumable brake shoes??? .... sounds like a bad idea MF stole from the competition.
Unlimited supply of Shiner Blonde to wash down all that fried chicken and Jay Skinner cinnamon rolls??? OK, but we will get that manual pretty greasy from finger prints before I'm done, mostly from the food I suppose....

Yeah I hear that the propane burns clean and the engine guts look like new. Also read somewhere that the shoes are seldom worn out.

I just paid a good tractor mechanic to do the brakes on my MF65. The big job is getting it apart, one side at a time.
Changed the differential oil while at it. New discs. Old Activators ok with some cleanup. Local MF dealer suggested we scuff-up the surfaces while it was apart to help the discs grab better. New seals definately...about $30 per side and oil leaks ruin these brakes. Check the old actuator rods..they tend to break.

This job is a bit dangerous. I would not tackle it...did not have the tools, jacks, blocks, muscle or energy.

Inside of the differential on a 50 year old tractor looked like new.

A tractor without brakes on my hilly farm is a deathtrap. Now I have a very useful tractor. Labor $600 parts $300 including the new oil ($150). But worth every penny.

Gosh, that's more than I pay for tractors!

Well, aghhhh... yeaaaa... it looks like I will stay up north all winter and freeze with the rest of the Yankees. And Canucks eh?

OK miner- here's an idea fer ya... Hows about I help you take it to Del Rio and i'll buy the doz ekkies for you AND the Mexican brake mechanics????
