MF35 not charging battery

OK, guys, I need some input on a charging issue. While brush hogging I noticed my MF35 gas was not charging. I headed to the shed. About three days later I took my voltage meter to check and determine what was going on. From what I can tell the battery went bad. I tried two different battery chargers and all went to max charge and just stayed there. Took the battery (under warranty) in and exchanged it for a new battery. Now I am still not getting any voltage from my GENERATOR. How can I check the unit before I take it off for a re-build? Do I need to re-polarize the generator? The new battery is now mounted on a rubber mat to lessen the stress of un-level ground. Bumps....

You could try motoring the generator , this will polarise it at the same time .

[u:c930f0b836]For Negative to earth wiring [/u:c930f0b836]

Remove the fan belt .
Join the field and main terminals together with wire and connect this to 12 volt negative on battery .
Take a wire from the 12 volt positive of the battery to the frame of the generator .
At this point the generator should begin to turn on its own fairly sedately .
If it does then this shows that the brushes and bearings are reasonable .
A hesitation or skip in part of the rotation shows that the windings have a problem .

Or
Disconnect the wiring to field and main terminals .
Take two long wires , one from each terminal and join them together at the other end .
Start the engine at idle .
Connect the two joined wires to battery negative [ if positive to earth ].
Check voltage with a multi meter and note .
Increase speed of engine slowly up to 1000rpm [u:c930f0b836][ do not exceed 1000 rpm or dynamo will burn out ][/u:c930f0b836].
At 1000 rpm battery should climb steadily and read aprox . 15 volts if dynamo is in good condition and charging correctly .
