I was going to tune up the old MF today and according to the operators manual, the standard plug for the MF-20 is a UJ-8, so I go down and pick up 3 plugs,Perkins 3 cyl Gas... I took off the gas tank and tin because I'm replacing the hoses and belts, the tractor has a loader and everything is in the way.

anyway, I pull the first plug and it's a long thread Autolite #65.. I go looking for the engine serial number and there is none which tells me someone has put in a new eng sometime in the past 40 yrs. Does anyone know when they went from short plugs to long ones or the other way around?? thants

I use Autolite 66 plugs in the forklift. Not sure when length change was made so I look at the head and see what length they should be. Of course with repairs over time parts get changed around too just to get things working again, so what it should be ain't what it is..

I usually always get the same plug that is in an engine, But want to know which plug they used first so I can get a year on the engine

Only thing I could find was by the engine serial number since the Perkins 3.152 gas engine was used in other equipment.

834230M1 Spark Plug (W/Gasket, Short) Used Prior To Engine Serial Number 152UA15060A

834236M1 Spark Plug (Long) Used Engine Serial Number 152UA15060A And Up.

Sorry for bringing an old thread back to life.... But I am in the middle of trying to find the right plugs for my MF20.

I looked up Autolite 65 and 66, and it looks like they are a resistor type plug according to this chart:

https://www.autolite.com/pdf/heat_range.pdf

Does a resistor type matter at all on these machines? Im looking to put in a full tune-up, and want to try and get all the right bits and pieces since I am planning to pull the tank to get around my loader, and want to have what I need ahead of time.

Will try one more time to find my engine numbers to know if I need 3/8", 3/4", or 7/16" reach plugs....
