massie fergusun 35 hydraulic oil and engine oil change ??

I just got a massie ferguson 35 and going to drain all the fluids and change them.what type of transmission and hydraulic fluid and engine oil do I need.also need information on cleaning the hydraulic oil filter and what I need to do for that.

I have a Ferguson 35... I use 90 wt mineral oil in the hydraulics and differential. I use 30 wt non-detergent oil in the engine (motor). However, you can use the 30 wt oil in everything. It has no hydraulic filter.

It has white stuff in it witch i figure is water.any ideals best way to get some sludge out if it has any built up.my guess it probably does now be a good time to get as much of it out that i can

You can remove the round cover where the pto lever is after you drain it to get most of the stuff that will be laying on the bottom. Even then it will take at least a couple of oil changes to get the stuff out that you can't get to, or see. The first oil change you do will get the majority of the contaminated oil out.

I would be very careful what you add to the hyd trans sump to clean it out,
that is assuming the hydraulics, gears all are working properly.

probably what you should have done, if all systems are working fine.

work the tractor hard get oil hot,

pull right out of the closest patch to the barn, stop and drain the oil, with the oil hot.

in your case I would buy 5 gals of the 90 weight mineral oil, or whatever oil you are going to use, pour it in, get it good and hot, then drain it again. should have most of the crud out of the system.

if there is a lot of crud inside the sump, if you put some type strong cleaner in there, it could break all that stuff loose, then stop up your hyd lines.

most 15w40 oil is great oil, but it has a strong cleaning package, designed for diesel motors, that stuff can start cleaning out you sump and since you have no sump oil filter, the dirt is going to get into the mechanical works.

reason 90 weight mineral oil was used back when they had no hyd filter, dirt particles fall to the bottom and do not stay suspended in mineral oil. The dirt is taken out when you drain the oil,

These modern oils, the dirt can be taken out through the oil filter.

just my two cents

you can change the oil this year, if you are not satisfied and all system work good, then change it again next year. should be good to go.

One thing that is never mentioned

Across the pond many owners use multi grade oil in their older Ferguson tractor differential, hydraulic systems.

What is rarely mentioned is that in England, they can buy, (non detergent) multi grade oil and that is what they use,

Over here, we can not buy non detergent multi grade oil like they have.

The mul grade oil they buy has the same non detergent properties, just like the old 90
weight GL-1 mineral oil, it allows the dirt particles to fall out to the bottom of the sump.

Some of these multi grade oils will attack the bronze bearing in the transmission, however that might take years to be a problem.

I when back with the 90 weight mineral oil, but in the winter the lift is slow at first as the oil is thick and my pump is worn. However by the time the motor is warmed up the lift is working fine.

If you pour all that amount in at once you will experience a major leak out the weep hole. I like to park on a slight incline and pour about 2 gal. at a time.
