year 'round oils and engine block heat

I'm trying to prep my inherited '63 Massey Ferguson 50 (MF50) with Perkins Diesel for use in the winter. Last winter was pretty brutal. Time to change oil in both engine and transmission/hydraulics. What should I use that would be good for year round temps in Kentucky. Hot summers, teens in winter for both oil changes?

Also, want to put in a freeze plug heater. Does anyone know what freeze plug I need to replace?

thanks

In Southwest MO., probably just west of you, I use Massey Ferguson Multiguard 15W-40 in my Perkins diesel. Dealer recommended it. I figure he knows.
In the transmission / hydraulics I use the equivalent of MF Permatran, whichever one I can find at farm and home store. I make sure the oil states on the label that it is the equivalent to MF Permatran. The owner;s manual does state that 10W-30 oil may be used in place of the Permatran, for temperatues between 25F and 81F. [Not sure I understand that, but that's what it says.] For HOT temperatures, above 64F [that's what it says...] manual recommends 15W-40.
I use O'Reilly;s store brand antifreeze.
