Just bought a MF65 (1958) to get the power steering unit and use it on a F40 I have. It turns great to the left but hard to turn to the right. What can I do to get it to work correct both ways. Pump seems have have good pressure. Hasn't been adjusted in any way since it had oil and dirt covering all parts. Neighbor had it, I bought it at his estate sale. Thanks

First thing is to get all the slack outa the ends of the little adjuster on top of the unit. Mine seemed to go from strong left turn to fairly easy both ways after a day or 2 of toying with it.

The link end valve centering spool needs adjustment. Valve is not moving far enough one way, but fine the other. Make sure the pins and link ends are in tight condition, worn parts are next to impossible to set correctly, and if you do get it the steering usually will shimmy badly..

All tie rod ends are worn out. It may just bad ends but didn't know since it will turn left. F40 has all new ends. Maybe I should wait until I install it to adjust. Didn't know if I would have to rebuild cylinder. Tony's here so I'll get a lot of advice. LOL

Its all in that long extender nut or whatever you call it. Beers and patience will be involved. Maybe Tony is the man for the job!

Yer ears burin there 2 tractors? I told miner about your adventures in power steering swaps, and told him to call you.
It seems he doesn't want to hear any bad news and depressing stories about this sort of project. I get the notion if it didn't leave the factory with power steering, you will have a job on your hands.
I mearly advised him to change the oil and buy a bottle of propane.... any other cross breading might lead to a monster... 2 monsters.. that don't run or steer at all any more...
it is a decent lpg hi crop 65 I would just put to work as is... better than being seen pulling wagons with a Dorf don't ya think????

My 40 had the same power steering unit, I had to have a new shaft made for the cylinder as it was gauled. After we got it back in, we had to adjust the top bolt to get it equalized. Took my son a while to get it where he wanted it. Works good now.
