Super 90 hard to shift

My Super 90 is difficult to shift. It is difficult to move the shift lever and the Hi/Lo range selector, and grinds when I shift. It shifts easily with the engine shut off. I suspicion the transmission brake to be at fault. What parts should I acquire before I enter the trans? What else should I suspect or do?
Thanks for any help.

The internal brake disc teeth may be worn away, or the hydraulic brake plunger may not be working. You can see the brake disc inside the transmission after removing the power steering pump and plate assembly. If you can spin the brake plate by hand and the shaft it's on does not turn the teeth are shot. Also note the standard and hi arch models don't use the same brake plate due to shaft tooth count difference. Standard has 21 teeth while row crop has 22 teeth..

This is a common thing on the super 90 Multi-power. Mine do the same thing.
Try reving the engine up, then quickly idling back, and try to shift, as soon as it idles down. It should go into gear then? Once the oil warms up with a little usage...it should then shift normally?

It sounds like the transmission brake. The repair manual describes how to do it exactly, but you need to remove the starter to get at the mechanical adjustment.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not aware of a service/repair manual for a Super 90, other than the I & T, which I have. Can you tell me the manual you refer to, I'd like to get one.

The 85 and S90 eight speed transmissions had the mechanical brake that could be adjusted. The Multi-Power S90 was hydraulic operated, no adjustment cam like the eight speed had.
