Ok im getting to the point of firing this old tractor up after a engine rebuld. couple od issues i would appreciat help on. When
adjusting the tappets like the book said with #1 piston tdc i adjust 1,2,3,5 to .012 got that done but then it says to rotate 180
degrees when i do 4,6 valves are open and i cant get .012 between the tappet and rocker arm. when i put it back together all the
timing marks lined up on the gears under the timing cover has anybody ever adjusted these what am i doing wrong. also when i
cranked it over it turn real slow then not at all so i pulled the starter and it would turn at all using jumper cables and a good
battery so i bought another starter from napa and put it on the tractor and it wont turn over either, havent had the chance to
take it off to see if it will turn over using jumper cables yet. Any suggestion on either issue. thanks

ok ill try the 360 to see if that seems right i just know the 180 doesnt seem right. any ideas on the starter issue

I would check all the battery cables and connections. I once had a problem like that and found that the clamp that goes on the battery post was cracked. Poor ground is a possibility also.

Do you know if it takes two batteries or just one and also I took starter off and I can"t hardly turn it over by hand either getting frustrated

Does it spin up ok if you hook it to the battery while you have it off the tractor? If it does there
might be something binding inside the engine.

Diesel? Gasoline? Model and size of engine?
As a rule when I set the Valves I look at the firing order
EG. 1-5-3-6-2-4 (six cylinder engine)
Rotate engine in direction of normal running
Place 1-5-3 over 6-2-4
1-5-3
6-2-4
With # 1 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 6 cylinder.
Rotate engine until
# 5 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 2 cylinder.
Rotate engine until
# 3 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 4 cylinder.
Rotate engine until
# 6 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 1 cylinder.
Rotate engine until
# 2 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 5 cylinder.
Rotate engine until
# 4 at TDC of FIRING / compression STROKE set the valves on # 3 cylinder.
Possibly this is not a procedure for all Internal combustion engines ...but it has worked well for me

After taking everything back apart found the thrush washer was tore up again. Can't figure out why it keeps going threw thrust washers this was the reason for the whole rebuild to begin with and haven't even had it running and now I need another set of thrust washer and crankshaft work. Starting to get frustrated.
