35 lift arms stuck up

gears

So the arms drift down if the motor is off, once you start it the arms go up no matter what position the sector quadrant is in. Searching old posts I found alot about an arm with a roller accessable behind the RH cover. Anyone got any pics of what to check? It's a friends and I offered to go over and help him figure it out.

Thanks

Hello,
Quite often the cause of not being able to control the 3-point linkage is due to the
oscillator link being broken This is mounted underneath the pump. It rocks back and forth
to keep the control valve free. Without this movement the valve can 'stick' in the pumping
position. If it is this it will require removal of the hydraulic cover and pump.
Oscillators on 35s were made of aluminium. Later ones were steel and do not break.

exactly what was wrong with mine. luckily for me an old school former ford tractor dealership had an original old style pump that a good oscillator. direct swap.

What does it take to get to the pump? I'm a Ford guy....

Does the top cover need to come off (seat/lift arms etc like an N)?

can I look in the side cover without draining oil and see/move that rocker arm to diagnose?

Does the pump come out the top or drop out the bottom (I thought I'd read one that needed the tractor split to get it out).

Anyone got any pics of this?

I own a MASSEY FERGUSON FE 35 x (Made in ENGLAND). Here's the procedure from the MASSEY FERGUSON SRVICE MANUAL ( 1448 811 M1 GROUP II-Section D-Part 1 page 3 & GROUP III-SECTION A-PART 1 pages 11 & 17)that I use "FE 35 X". It may differ from your TRACTOR? If you decide to remove the HYD. lift PUMP or just the lift cover start by disconnecting the STARTER BATTERY. Make sure lift ARMS are DOWN. Drain TRANS/HYD.OIL. Remove both left and right side inspection covers (ROUND PLATES/DOORS). I know of no reason to split the DIFF. from the TRANS ?

Thanks John that helps quite a bit - the pics of the manual appear to show the tractor split, I wonder if that's for clear pictures?

So my understanding is that the pump can come out through the lift cover opening once the pto shaft is pulled.

first step is going to be to work the control levers to see if the control valve is just stuck (through the dipstick'd access plate on the side under the seat).

I know of no reason to split the DIFF from the TRANS. given your circumstance. Yes I believe picture is for explanation and internal viewing. Picture from 1960 Massey Ferguson Parts Catalogue FORM NO. 651 093 M91 Item's # 54 (both sides of Diff. Housing) are the LAST TWO items to be removed.

Not splitting the diff from the trans but the trans from the tractor.

does the engine/trans need unbolted from the rear end/hyd assembly?

ONLY the top of the HYD. LIFT COVER, the two side inspection plates need to be removed to gain access to the internal PUMP. If you decide to remove the pump then I would also remove the PTO shaft.

Thanks Bob, that's what I was hoping. Tractor stays in one piece and pump can come out the top (lift cover). I'm hoping it doesn't come to that but I'll be sure to post what I find out.
