Massey Harris 20 or ?

Hi all.
New Member here.
I just purchased a MH 20 or so i think.
There are no serial tags on the side frames, and i cannot find a serial on the transmission housing because of it being repainted.
I have a PTO handle, and power lift setup.
Could someone advise me where to sand the paint in search of a serial number,?

Thanks in advance

Paul

The serial number is hand stamped into the top left side of the cast iron transmission case, I think the surface of the casting there is machined. Just to the left of the bolt-down tranny top plate that the shift lever is mounted on (in the clutch pedal area). The stamping letters/numbers are relatively large but usually not too deep in the cast iron so you'll have to sand the paint in that area. Let us know how you make out ......

Thank you so much. I have looked and looked and not found anything. Now i know where to sand i will try later and post back.
Thanks

I just checked my own MH20 and it looks like the sanded area in the photo is spot on for where the number is stamped. View that area from the rear and look hard, it will be there. Like I said the stamping is shallow and barely visible but it should be there. The letters and numbers are quite large actually but shallow unfortunately. Any results ?????

Absolutely bang on. 10 minutes of sanding and the numbers appeared. Thank you so much..I was hoping the numbers would tell me which model I have. I think they did, either a 20 or a 22
I have a narrow front end with power lift on rear.
How do I distinguish between a 20 or 22

The serial number reads

G 5965

Thanks again..

Paul
