Massey 165 - Different stuck transmission problem.

I have a different type of stuck transmission problem.
Transmission is stuck in 1st but shifter moves freely.
I pulled oil cap and can see the shift lever - will move between 1st and reverse but nothing changes. When in neutral position can move the shift lever to 3rd and 2nd & 4th but cannot engage any of these because it is still in first.
So all shift rails are lined up - shifter seems to move between 1st and reverse with no problem but nothing happens (stays in first). Does not feel right moving between 1st and reverse.
2nd, 3rd, 4th gears will not engage but shift lever moves to position to engage them.
Any one have any help / ideas on this?
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the reverse/first shift rail is lined up? Since you have a 4 speed there are 3 rails that have to be lined up not just 2 rails It's a little harder to see the reverse/first rail on a 4 speed.

I am 99% sure it is moving the reverse/shift rail. It seems like it is not moving the gears. Can feel it going into ball detents.
I have a pen light in transmission and can see all three rails and shifter knob end that goes into them.

(quoted from post at 15:17:15 08/17/15) If you can feel the detents in reverse/first sounds like the shifter fork for reverse, and first broke.

So does that mean pulling the top of transmission or
 The whole thing comes apart

I'd look inside the transmission with a bore scope first before doing anything. If the shifter fork is broke the top cover has to come off, and the tractor will have to be split behind the transmission.
