I have a massy 250. I think it was made in 1981
But I'm not sure. How would I figure out its Horse power / PTO speed/ ratio ect. I would Like to find out everything possible about it. The man my dad bought it from has passed Away. I can read the serial number. I know It Has a 3 cly Perkins Diesel engine. I want to Replace the lights , gages and emblems. I Would like to figure out what size and type Of front end loader I could put on it. Thank youTo every one in the forums. My gears got Hung up two weeks ago and I was able to Gently pry them loose and finish bush Hogging thanks to info I found hear.

Et,
I would have thought that the shifter hanging problem would have been solved by now.

I had trouble from time to time for years on my old 1957 TO35, until I finally learned to push down on the shifter lever as I shifted.

Problem: the shift rails are worn on my old tractor, so they may be worn on yours too.
I have not had anymore problems once I learned to push down on the shifter lever as I shifted gears. The time you are most subject to have a gear lock is when you are in reverse, then shift to go forward, before the tractor fully stops going backward.

when you stop and the shifter is in your hand, your body goes back some as you come to a stop, you pull up slightly on the lever as you shift to the forward gear.

" YOU MUST TEACH YOUSELF TO STOP DOING THIS"

unless you want to spent your time unlocking the gears.

when was the differential/transmission oil changed in your tractor?
if you change the oil, be sure to use the proper oil, as MF has changed their oil requirements over the years.

I recommend you {not put the cheap oil} in your tractor, you will thank me for that advice later.

Wellmax that was the first and only time I have hung up the gears. In 4 years. I think reversing down hill and being short ( trouble reaching break and worn breaks) had a lot to do with it. I normally pull across a slope as I know the parking break or emergency break don't work at all. I was in a hurry too trying to get her done. Why is it so hard to find listings for info, parts and serial number info for the MF 250. I guess they don't make them any more and they are a dying breed?

Not sure about the gear oil. I guess it's easier to change it and know than to wonder. Is their a way to check to see if it needs changing. Like poking a small pen pocket magnet in it and seeing if their are metal shavings or dirt in the oil or fluid. I've lots of minor fixing to do on her but she's my baby. I love my tractor or dads I should say. She will be mine one day. I'm wanting to repaint her to. I degreased the engine for repair work and now their is some rust starting. What to do about that? Things to fix are leaking hydraulics, draft control stuck, RPM gage, repaint , exhaust pipe ,all the lights replaced / rewired and a shade top. Oh yea breaks and the steering cylinder rebuilt. She works though never let's me down.

My gears are hung in my MF35. The gear shift won't budge and it's stuck in 1st. Do you know how to release without pulling the steering column? This has happened to me before and it's a chore to fix my way.
