My parents purchased this Massey Ferguson 35 x 3 cylinder Perkins diesel new at some point in 1963. Shortly there after a MALCO/ALLIED front end loader was added. The poor little Massey was sentenced to a life of hell! It had to work the three quarters of land they owned to produce all that was required to raise 60 head of cattle plus the 60 calves and bulls.. Twenty thousand hay bales were churned out through a New Holland baler. Fifty acres of Barely and Oats were combined with a pull type case Combine. The 35 pulled 3 x 14 plough in 3rd gear Low range in hay land and 1 st gear high range in stubble. The little beast never missed a day. This machine never used more than one gallon per hour of fuel while working! In 1985 this FE 35 x was abandoned to the fence line.
In May 0f 1985 my father removed all body Tin. I was asked to do a compete (front axel pivot to the PTO shaft) overhaul as per required. First thing was to purchase a MASSEY FERGUSON SERVICE MANUAL # 1448 811 M1.....$46.80.
The machine required every component associated with the steering Colum and transmission cover. I was able to purchase a NOS complete STEERING assembly from a USA made 35 that had the 4 cylinder engine. Yes it fit perfectly. The OIL plug for adding oil is in a different location.
After extensive repairs the machine was now operating like new but looked bad! At some time in 1985 this 35 was lent to my brother who used it to move snow in the winter months.
Last week (Aug,3,2015) the little beat came home after sitting out side for the past thirty years. I removed every FUEL line and purged with air and solvent. Replaced both fuel filters,(bleed fuel system as per original operator manual) Engine oil and Installed a spin-on oil filter. In stalled new front tires. Drained the Trans-Hyd oil and flushed with diesel. Then a second flush with kerosene, then the last flush with 10 W hydraulic oil.Removed the HYDRAULIC pump screen and added new oil to the system. As the starter is not operating with a pull she fired right up and sounds power full as the exhaust manifold is not attached. This week a new exhaust manifold and gasket are to arrive as well as a muffler, front grill, and a transfer fuel pump. The right rear fender was in bad,bad condition so I installed a fender from a parts tractor, as well as a front right spindle and head lights. A new seat cushion and back rest was installed this morning, along with the heavy duty draw bar. The little monster shall spend the rest of its days inside when not keeping the grass cut at the local cemetery. My father was 34 years of age the summer they purchased this little beast .......he is now 86!

Boy your dad did the right thing getting the Perkins 3. I guess that was the last of the classy old tinwork too. But when you are in snow country, a tractor without a loader is nearly useless till spring ain't it?
It is nice to know you got your 46 loonies out of that manual, it sounds like you know what you're doing too- that always helps!!
Keep up the good work!

What a warhorse! I've got 2 of the standard motors petrol versions which seem to have more ump than my to35's.I bet that loader with no power steering was a bear to handle.Good job of getting her back on the road.

takes a licking and keeps on ticking
oh wait that's for a watch
think I would rather have the family tractor then a watch any day
always good to keep a piece of personal memories alive and well
thanks for sharing

I'm about to REPLACE/UPGRADE the STARTER on this 1963 FE 35 x 3 Cylinder Perkins "A3.153 Engine" The present starter is the ORIGINAL.
Info on STARTER Housing:

SERIAL N0 22PE

My PARTS CATALOGUE is for a 1960 Tractor.....not a 1963.
Keeping in mind RELIABILITY...AVALIABILITY...COST
I have noticed FE 35 Tractors with STARTERS other than CAV.........Make of Starter?
Would someone know if a STATER from a MASEEY FERGUSON 135 with the 3 cylinder Perkins is a direct bolt on?
Would someone know if a Starter from a FORD DEXTRA is a direct bolt on? Model of Tractor?
Is a CAV STARTER still available?
Pros and cons of various makes of Starters?
I replaced the TRANSFER FUEL pump... FUEL dripping onto the next Starter.
Part NUMBERS for a replacement STARTER?
Thank you
Bob...
