weak steering MF275

I recently purchased a 275 Massey and the more I use it the more I feel like something is wrong with the hydraulic steering. It has trouble steering at idle while setting still, if you rev it to about 1000 rpm is steers much better but will not steer lock to lock regardless even when rolling unless you lift the front end off the ground. Im new to the way Massey Fugerson steering works and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recently acquired tractor? The pump is always suspect in such cases, but one easy thing to check is the front spindles. Try
greasing both, and see how they take grease(maybe they won't). Lack of grease, rust/dirt buildup inside the spindle tubes can make
any steering pump strain to it's max.

What is the serial number on the tractor (it makes a difference as some part go). It will either have 2 small, or 1 large hydraulic cylinder in the front for steering. The power steering pump has a strainer inside that usually doesn't get changed. On spindles they will have a thrust washer/bearing on the bottom, if it will go lock to lock with the front end off the ground the thrust washer/bearings probably need replacing.

It goes lock to lock when the front end is off the ground but not without some effort especially when it gets close to the end of its travel. It has the dual steering cylinders on the front. And I will try greasing the front end next day I'm off. I also feel that the pump is getting weak. Today when using the tractor it would not steer at all while setting still at any rpm.

It is possible that the seals inside those steering cylinder(s) could be bad. You could also unhook the tie rods, and with the front end jacked up to see how the spindles turn. Plus you could also test the steering without the tie rods hooked up.
