MF 205 steering

The power steering on my 205 industrial Is not working properly. It was fine last fall when I put it up for the winter, but now it only works occasionally. I took the fill plug out after it had been sitting a few days and it bubbled out air then some oil like it was over full. Any suggestions as to the problem? It is stored under cover.

Check all fittings on the cylinders and for leaks on the pump which may be a source of air getting into the system. To bleed air out, leave the pump fill plug loose, jack up the front end and with the tractor OFF turn the steering full left to full right and your will hear the air bubbling out. Continue doing this and adding more fluid as needed until the air noise is reduced. Are you using transmission ATF fluid in the PS pump? We use ATF in our 205. One of the cylinders may be working less than the other also or your pump may not be putting out enough pressure. I think there is a power steering filter you can change too, but without my manual I'm not 100% sure about the filter. My MF 65 has a PS filter.

Tried your suggestion of jacking up the front and turning wheels back and forth and it is a lot better, got quit a lot of air out of it, but still don't seem to be as I remember it last year. Maybe it just needs to be drove some. Maybe I'm just getting old and forgetful.

If you keep getting bubbles, and or have to keep adding oil the pump could possibly be leaking oil into the engine if you don't see any external leaks. The steering valve could be getting stuck on occasion. The internal filter in the power steering pump may need to be changed.

Well I had the 205 out today tedding hay and it seems to steer good as long as I don't turn the wheel too fast. Try to crank it fast and it is jumpy.
