Massey 44 special serial number

Looking at a Massey 44 special. Is there anyway to tell by the serial number on a Massey what model it actually is? The tag is hard to read. It
appears there is the letters GR and a number starting with a 6. Can anyone help me in identifying this tractor?

Are you asking how to be sure it is a 44 Special? A Special serial number should start 44GS...if a gas, D for diesel, but there should be an S there.Your number is for a 44 gas rowcrop. A Special should have the cast front wheels, 277 engine (gas only) long frame on all models, extended rear platform on standard models.

The tag is still there. It says 44-GR 6347. The 6347 is stamped in the transmission casting also. I don't see an S anywhere in the serial number.

Sounds like a straight 44 gas rowcrop by that model number. The serial number indicates a late 40's early 50's model---there should be a brealdown of numbers years on the left side of your screen on this site.

A 44 special serial should start out looking like this
44 G1RF-gas row crop
44 G1SF- gas standard
44 K1RF- distillate row crop
44 K1SF- distillate standard
44 B1RF- low pressure gas row crop
44 B1SF- low pressure gas row crop
44 D1RF- diesel row crow
44 D1SF- diesel standard
On diesels at the end of the number their should be the letter P standing for the P.S.B. pump or the letter A for the A.P.E pump
The letter F in the serial number stands for foot clutch the letter H would stand for hand clutch
The letter S stands for standard R for row crop C for cane and W for wide axle
all of this information came directly from an original 44 special service manual
