Just acquired a Massey 55 standard gasser. In the future I will call on you guys for finding parts and answering questions. I'm pretty versed on restoring since I am an IH man and have restored nearly 60 of them in the last 30 years. The reason for the Massey is it happens to be the first tractor I plowed with over 50 years ago and my Dad bought his tractor new. I've always known where it was but the last owners wouldn't sell it. It took 20 years of asking and finally the 3 brothers died and the kids want to sell everything. I am really excited about this restoration!

Thanks in advance for any help you may give. Jerry

Great! Another double nickel fan! I have restored two 55s; I have owned 5 over the years, one with a 3-71 Detroit Diesel. Advertised as the most powerful farm tractor on wheel when they were introduced in 1946, a title they held until the JD 80 was built. Harder than most Masseys for parts, there were 22,000 55s and 555s built, from the transmission back they were similar to the even more rare 201 203 series that preceded the 55s. Looks like yours is a later model 55 1951 or 52, Gas version is more desirable from a parts standpoint as the diesels were prone to breaking crankshafts since they were not internally balanced. I see yours has the rather rare hydraulic system, and the rear pivot point for the front axle looks odd. Great old tractor, and they sure make you grin when that ol' governor opens up the throttle!

Glad to be of any assistance if need be. Enjoy!

Congratulations! Patience always pays off......glad to see the ole girl found its way back home again!
I'm a big fan of the 55's and 555's! Hope to have a pair of diesels someday before I die! Lol
Good luck......hope you post pictures when you get it restored.

Older brother was 16 when Dad bought the tractor new and he said that the front axle pivot was like that from the factory. It is a late 1952.

AWESOME! Have my dads 55 also but it's in pretty bad shape. Building a shop so I can redo it right but will have to get a running one and use
for parts.
