MH20 (and other models) Clutch Pedal Shaft Problem ???

I have a MH 20 but I suspect this question would also cover other models in the MH lineup from back in the day (like 81,82,22,Pacer, maybe the 101's and 102's, etc). The pivot shaft on my 20 is anchored into the side of the transmission case on the tractor's left size. The clutch pedal pivots on it. Like most old tractors, the shaft is worn (and so is the pedal hole) and as a result the clutch pedal is wobbly. I would like to either replace the shaft (make a new one or build up the old one then machine it down). I would then machine out and bush the shaft hole in the pedal.

My question is about the shaft. Is it removeable from the transmission casing? Maybe it's threaded in, can't really tell. Or maybe it's a press fit? Appreciate any replies or suggestions .... Thanks.

They are threaded into the side of the housing. It should have a place, close to the housing, where you can put a wrench on it to take it out.

Yes, threads make sense but there is no hex grip or flat spot on the shaft to back it out. Maybe a pipe wrench might work but it seems like a crude way of doing it. Maybe welding a nut on the end of the shaft might work. Threads seem the only sensible way this could work. Using the cotter pin hole at the shaft's end might provide a grip with a stub pin in place there?
