Massey Ferguson 2745

I inherited a Massey 2745 and have a few questions. I have read a lot on here about the transmission as I have never used or owned a power shirt. Do you have to clutch when moving from one gear ot the next. I am to understand that the trans is ok to use power shift on gears 1-4 but not recommended on 5-8. When stopping should you idle down before hitting the clutch. I believe I read that this is easier on the trans. I am assuming this is talking about gears 5-8. I am thinking about using this tractor to bale round bales. Is the tractor to big for the baler. Any other info is great. Thanks

How would you compare this tractor to an International 1086

Got a 2745 and a 2805. The powershift is something you do not need to clutch with. You must clutch to place into the numbered gear, but not from low/mid/high.
You also must clutch to enter reverse. Never use reverse in gears 5 or above (manual also tells you that). It may be more tractor than a baler requires. It has been said to run implements where the horsepower required is 100hp or less. Also, when using ground engaging equipment, allow for a 3% wheel slip. The rear end is expensive if one tears it up. But the 2000 series tractors are cheap horsepower. They also nearly put Massey out of business.

There is a 2745 on ebay for 5,800. Dealers sell them in excess of 12,000. The one I saw on ebay has a pto issue. Another expensive repair and I'd bet the owner knows it.

I have owned mine since 1980 at 4000 hours it is now headed to the recyclers . Clutch brake went put clutch out of adjustment and damaged input shaft to transmission ....Last tractor of this model that required this work at the shop
I use cost the owner
$20,000
