MH 44K Gas Tank Full of Dried Tar

Gentlemen,
I have a 48' Massey Harris 44K that I'm trying to get to a serviceable condition. I've been using a lawnmower gas tank for temporary moving around the barnyard etc. The fuel tank was not drained before the tractor was stored 45 years ago and consequently, has about an inch and a half of a hard tar-like substance in the bottom. What would you recommend using to clean this out with, muriatic acid, or maybe having it boiled out at a radiator shop? I appreciate any assistance you can give. Thank you,
Sapper

One thing I might try would be take this down to the car wash, set her on High-Hot-Wash and let it blast for 10 or 15 minutes.

E85 is probably the cheapest way unless you have a good friend who works at, or owns a radiator shop. Radiator shops can be real pricey when it comes to boiling a fuel tank.

Could you post pictures and provide dimensions of the "starter" tank? This is not the main fuel tank, but a small tank that was filled with gasoline used to start the tractor.

THANK YOU!!!

Hey! Thanks for responding Goldsburg. I posted an update on the tank situation just a short while ago.

Sapper -

Can you post pictures of the small tank?

I have a friend that is wanting to replicate one...

Thanks,

Did my CUB tank a couple of months ago. I used MEK from a paint store or lowes, depot, etc. Pour it in and let it set for a couple of days. Just don't get it on any paint cause it will disapear quickly. Final is after it is nice and clean I flushed it with a pressure washer down the gas filler hole. Worked great.
