massey ferguson 35

Im going to look at a massey ferguson 35 tractor this weekend. The man hasn't started it since September last year. Said he had the carb cleaned and a new starter. Just wondered what to look for and what to get it running besides battery. He wants $1500. Is that a fair price. Very good tires all way around. It is a gasser

I have an old TO35 1957 model, was Beige color before some dummy (me) painted it red.
would sure hate to take $1500 for it.

runs like a top,

back you your question:
an old tractor well cared for is worth top money, a newer tractor that has been rode hard and put up wet, not so much. (all depends on its condition)

sounds like a good price to me. I just put a $900 set of rear tires on my tractor this last fall.
does transmission leak from weep hole under transmission?

if you can get it started, however gas is going to be old and if he put ethanol gas in the tank and its set that long you would be better off to drain it before you even begin trying to start it. maybe carry some non ethanol gas with you

are you buying it as a non runner, if so then maybe $800, if it not beat all to crap.

all I did was confuse you, but if it does not run, you do not know if the lift works, pto works, gears works,
in no time you could have $3500 in it and never look back.

again, just my humble opinion!!!!!!!!!!

if it looks as good as this one and runs as well and idles at 350 to 375 rpm's then buy it.

It is a non runner but he swears it is a good runner. Said lift and PTO was fine. Here is a few pics

Dang I almost went by wellmax pic and was about to say jump on it but don't be discouraged by weephole leak as it's bound to have one unless stopped up or replaced seal. I'd have to hear it run to pay that for it. My experience is pay no more than 800 for a non runner as you will soon have over 3k doing most repairs yourself.Make sure it's a 2 stage clutch and no water in oil. These are very well built long lasting tractors with no pot metal parts inside. Insist on hearing it run an operate, get temp up and watch oil pressure.

I have to agree with 2tractors.
With todays gas, plus the fact the tractor has been sitting since last September look inside the gas tank with a flash light for rust (I'll bet is a mess inside). As it sits its a $600 - $800 tractor.

Sorry wellmax for quoting you almost word for word but I didn't read all you wrote just the weephole part.

Would this be a good little tractor to rake some hay with and cut with a Sickle mower?

No, it would be a [b:acad2269b9]great [/b:acad2269b9] tractor for that.

But as others have said, it's not worth what he's asking if it isn't running. Looks awfully beat up to me.
