Thanks to the folks who posted replies to my original post about my engine. I still need some advice about the second half of my post. Will any perkins 4.236 fit in my old MF 180 tractor? Bobcats, welders and such use the same motor and I would think it would fit. I have emailed a couple of engine rebuilders and I am waiting for a reply. Thanks!

Hi,
I think the answer has to be 'No' to your question. The reason for this is that some 4.236s fitted to marine and industrial applications have a backplate which is bolted to the back face of the block. MF blocks have a backplate which is an integral part of the block. You may be lucky to find a 4.236 with a backplate either cast or bolted on which will fit your gearbox housing but most appear to be made specifically for whatever device they are driving.

David is spot on, the 180 has it's own mount casted into the block rear like the A4.300 and 318 did. The 165 with the AD4.203 did have an adapter as did MF tractors with the 354. You do have several choices though from other MF models though, 236 and 248 from the 200 series would bolt in too.

Yes, I have found that to be true. Thanks for your reply. I see you are from Wales. My wife and I spent a day in Conway a few years ago. We envy your weather today. 100 degrees and 105+ heat index.
