perkins rope to lip seal

I have just learned I have an extremely worn thrust surface on my massey 165 and will need to get a new crank. It used a rope type seal. Can this be converted to a lip style seal and crank?

Looking at the parts book, that would be no. All the part numbers for the engine to transmission adaptor, engine block, crankshaft, and rear seal, have different parts numbers after engine serial number 203UA109488DL (switch to lip type seal).

Could a machine shop build up the worn part and turn it back to spec?

It can be repaired if you can find a shop with the expertise. I had one done for a MF 180 and it worked fine.
