Hi-Lo MF 50

I have a 1959 MF 50. I have had the normal problem of it getting stuck in 1st or Reverse. Today while out bush hogging encountered something new. Hi-Lo range selector not working. Main shifter is shifting fine, removed fill and could see it shifting like it should. Shift Hi-Lo and nothing. Need help, thank you/

The safety fuse coupling may have sheared, or moved forward if the cotter pin came out that holds it back on the pinion shaft. Could also be the low range internal gear that's pressed into place is coming out of the carrier, that will cause loss of both hi and lo as the shift sleeve can no longer mesh at each end of travel.

Yes, could be that too. You can check it this way, remove the oil fill cap, place trans in 1st hi range. While looking at the gears inside let the clutch engage, if the gears start and stop with the clutch pedal the rear drive is lost somewhere. If the gears never move with clutch pedal up then you have clutch trouble or lost the trans input drive some how.

ok thank you will try that in the morning after I get it mostly put back together. A lot of lil things to take off to get to the tranny.

did what you said this morning. I reassembled transmission cover and everything is back together. I looked down through the fill hole and all the gears are working in hi and lo. can I remove the dipstick cover and see what you are talking about on the coupler. Is it inside of the transmission or in the differential. Thank you for your help.

thank you for your help. the cotter pin was there, but the coupler itself had sheared. do you know of the easies way to get the other side of the coupler out and the most feasible way to install the new one. I immensely appreciate you and your knowledge, saved me a lot of money on the waste of a new clutch.
