MF 50E Cylinder Rebuild4

Have a MF 50E Utility with a leaking cylinder on the loader boom. Parts diagram shows a wire clip holding the gland nut. The clip can be seen in an angled hole near the end of the cylinder. I can rotate the gland nut, but the wire does not move.

Am I missing something? How does this come apart?

If that is one of those square locks good luck getting it out. They were originally a square wire that was tapped in through that slot and were supposed to have an end bent to tap them back out. After all these years I will be surprised if you can remove it. A poor idea. IMO
