Massey Ferguson 245

My Massey Ferguson 245 is starting to become hard to steer. The fluid level is good. Does this sound like a power steering pump off the engine issue, or is it possibly the steering components directly below the steering wheel? Thanks!

I cannot really help, I have a 240-S. But I think some of these 200-series have a hydraulic steering fluid filter someplace. Not sure where. Got the impressionit was inside the pump, maybe??? Sorry, not much help.

has the filter inside the pump reservoir been changed lately,if so or after replacing filter it still steers hard it's most likely the pump, install a pressure guage in the pressure line from the pump and check pressure to make sure

Have you bled the air out of it? If not, the level won't be right and it will steer hard. Procedure is in the Owners Manual. I use a long funnel that will barely fit in the fill hole, add some oil(MF Permatran or equiv) and cycle the steering all the way in each direction several times until the steering feels better. If you leave it all the way to the Left then pull the funnel you won't lose as much oil before you put the plug in. My 245 has over 4500 hours and the pump has never been replaced and it's been used like a borrowed mule, your mileage may vary.
