Couple of questions about a Massey 44

I was recently given a couple of tractors by my wife's family and had a question about the "44". There is a small gear box bolted to the back of the clutch housing. If I move the lever, it disconnects the engine from the transmission. Is it supposed to have gear oil, or some type of lubrication in it? The reason is, what appears to be the lower half of it is missing. I can see the fork and collar when looking up from underneath. Is there another purpose for this gear box? The I&T manual I have shows nothing.

I'm also needing the rubber tube between the air cleaner and the carburetor. I've searched everywhere, and am hoping somebody might know where I could find one.

Thought I'd share a couple of pictures of the "44" on the trailer, leaving Iowa and the "30" back in Texas.

Thanks for any help!

For the hose, you go to an automotive store and you go look in the back of the counter for a car/truck radiator hose that would work. Usually you will have to shorten it.

What is the setup on the 30, with what seems like a small gas engine, and idler pulley attached to the frame?

Father-in-law took a air condition compressor ( York ) and ran it off the belt pulley with a v-belt. Had a jumper wire off the 12 volt battery to engage the clutch. This was his idea portable air compressor----no tank, just a 120 lb. relief valve!!

The darn thing did what he wanted it to do, and most important, it was cheap.

Now anyone want to tell me how a DEPTH-O-MATIC cylinder and valve are supposed to work? That bracket and little 1/2 inch pin can't support much weight or pull. I read the Massey ad from the 50's saying what it could do. I guess that's why FIL took them off.

Thank you, never would have guessed that AGCO would still have it available. I work for a Cat dealership and rebuild transmissions and axles for the Challenger tractors. The prices on those parts are scary.

Thanks again.
