wont pull in high range

1155 M.F. rolling hay, slips in high range, don't think it's the main clutch got 3/4 free travel on pedal. can shift the left lever to low it slips but will finally move. don't know if it's a pump problem or a clutch pack that needs shims or what. any info. appreciated.

Sounds like hydraulic pump to me. The "high" is shifted and held by hydraulic pressure.
If it were a clutch problem, you would have issues in all powered shifting and speeds.

There should also be a 5 micron filter located in the nose of the tractor. Though its probably too late, would be a good idea to change that too. The filter is cheap enough to help prevent more damage. The transmission sump has a screen in it too. You will need to drain the rear end to get access to it, but its a way of checking for shavings. Remember to refill with massey permatran hydraulic oil. (That oil isn't cheap but a requirement)!

You may have hydraulic problems, and could loose hi range multi power if no oil is going to the hi clutch pack. Lo range is a jaw clutch that I've never seen fail. If tractor has the 8 speed trans its all mechanical like the lo mp side of the 12 speed. The slippage you describe still sounds like clutch to me. Is there any oil leaks at clutch housing area? Might be getting oil on the clutch disc causing slippage. Hydraulic trouble can cause a host of issues, but will not keep tractor from moving. Most high hour tractors will loose the drive to the hydraulic charge pump that feeds the main pump. When either the flywheel coupling or trans-diff joint coupling fails all steering and hydraulics are dead, but the tractor will still move.

Hi From your 20 hour comment, I'm hoping your not about to find out why the last guy got rid of it.With those tractors and there age and experience, you either get a good one or a whole pile of the last guys problems. some of it's not cheap to fix either with hydraulics or trans problems. i had an 1135 here like that, I bought in to fix up and sell. If I'd a known the truth I'd a never bought it. Or sold it to a friend. I don't own it any more and it's still a royal pain in the rear, when he calls with problems. It should of been scraped.
As you can see it looked real sharp, I did mechanical work and repainted the loader and wheels. everything including air con worked when it left here.

I guess when I edited my 1135 picture vanished

Hi After reading your replies I was just wondering about this theory.
I drove an 1155 for a guy once, that had a worn MP pack in. The outer teeth on the discs had worn like shark teeth and cut grooves into the drum splines and it would stick when changing into hi. when it freed up and shifted fully into high, it would kinda take up drive slowly like a torque converter transmission bringing revs up. could he have a similar problem and the tractors semi free wheeling like it would in low range on a hill.

When I pulled that 1135 apart the MP and pto pack had the grooves worn in the drums. I had to replace all the drums and discs in that one while it was apart, for stripped drive couplers and chipped teeth in the gearbox and final drives. after that was the hyd fun when we found out where all the filings had gone through valves and pumps when the hyds quit L.O.L!!!!!!.

THANKS, YOU MAY BE RIGHT!!! already had one bad thing happen, like a head gasket, that one was under warranty from dealer, just glad i was smart enough to catch it. they also shaved the head good so far.
