MH 44 Special Steering Gear (box)

does anyone know where to get a good steering box for a MH 44SP?

mine has served the last part of it's life as a loader tractor and the steering box has a ton of slop.

I've adjusted the slack out as much as possible, but it still has a quarter turn of play before anything happens.

just wondering where one might be able to find a good one.

current plan is to take the loader off and use it to run the manure spreader, and nothing else.

That does not look like a factory front end to me, others might be able to tell. I have a MH44 that I put power steering on, and have fought with the steering gear for a while. I would just convert it to full hydrostatic steering if I were to do it again.

someone once told me that it looked like a schwartz wide-front conversion, but your guess is as good (or better) than mine.

the steering box looks like the original to me, but maybe the WF makes a difference? IDK

(quoted from post at 18:21:01 05/23/15) That one looks like it would be pretty easy to make it hydrostatic steering unless you want to keep it original.

that is far beyond my knowledge base. :)

i don't really care how 'original' it is, but i'm not going to spend a ton of money on it either.

for as little as it is going to get used i can live with it the way it is, but it would be nice to tighten it up a little bit.

Its not a M-H wide front axle, it looks like a Schwartz axle. Since it not a M-H wide front axle it probably was a single front wheel.
Some part numbers (serial number 40001 and up), and if it still used the M-H single front wheel steering box.

The gear wears the most in the center, because that is where it lives most of the time. It will bind outside the middle if you tighten it up to much. I like to jack up the front end when adjusting, and make sure it travels back and forth without binding.

Does it have the same amount of play when turned to the sides?
