MF20 TL fluids

Hello,

I have a MF20 industrial tractor w/ loader and I bought the Operator's Manual. Unfortunately the manual doesn't specify or even mention what type of power steering fluid or radiator fluid/coolant should be used. Does anyone know what type of fluids I should use, how full I should fill, whether the coolant needs to be mixed w/ water & what ratio, or whether the service manual would have further details on these topics? Thanks for any help.

I have a MF30E which is primarily the same unit only a little newer. I bought the "Bible" for this tractor so what I tell you is right out of the book (which cost me $215.00 several years back). The coolant capacity is 10.23 Liter or 2.25 Imperial Gals. I would use/add straight anti-freeze depending on your climate. The power Steering unit uses .48 L or .10 Imp. Gal. of Permatran oil. There should be a fill plug about 1" from the top of the canister to add fluid (PERMATRAN ONLY). There is also an internal filter that may require replacing when the PS pump malfunctions. The transmission uses Permatran oil also. Dipstick should be to the right side as you sit on the tractor, and the fill for the transmission should be on top of the case. Permatran oil is a Mineral-base oil that MF utilizes. It's also used in the brake system as I found out the hard way. Good luck!

Straight anti-freeze, like 100% of the stuff like Prestone that they recommend cutting with water? Up here in northern Alberta, our temps get to -30C and for extreme freezing solutions, some go 60/40 (anti-freeze to water) but most use the old rule of thumb of 50/50. I don't think 100% is recommended in any application that I've ever seen, but I stand to be corrected.

I suppose I should mention I live along the Wisconsin/Illinois border so max temps here are generally 100F/-20F with some further fluctuation in extreme cases. I do hope to use the tractor both to mow w/ my brush hog in the summer and move snow in the winter so hopefully I can find an antifreeze solution that will work for this.

I see now the manual does state the power steering fluid should meet M-1129A specs. Looks like the transmission, differential, and hydraulic systems all use the same spec oil. Does that sound right?

I take it you can find this oil by the specs on the bottle at places like Farm and Fleet or Tractor Supply Co.

Thanks again for any help.

Look for Permatran compatible oil. I buy a 5 Gal tub at NAPA and use it over 2 seasons. You didn't specify if you have Shuttle shift or dry clutch. On the Antifreeze, your never going to drain the entire system to change it, so I would go straight blend. You can always add water to top it off. Most people worry about the anti-freeze; I am more worried about the water pump lub contained therein. I'm going on 20 plus years on my TO-35 water pump. Remember, don't add mineral/hard water. It will eventually clog the system, especially up North. Good Luck!

The antifreeze/coolant is good, never heard of Blains farm and fleet uhtf (didn't find out much about which specs it meets). For the transmission/rear end the oil needs to meet MF Spec M-1129A. The loader hydraulic oil should meet MF spec M1110.
