MF 240 power steering control valve

I installed a new Power Steering Control Valve on a MF 240. I have good power assist to the left but poor assist to the right. The old valve was leaking being the reason for it being replaced. Is there any adjustment I need to make?? I adjusted the rod from the steering wheel to the valve according to the manual for installation of the valve. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jay,
If you have a similar type to that fitted in the UK where you have an adjustable barrel between the upper 'moving' part of the steering column and the valve spool look for any wear in the barrel eyes and/or pins. A small amount of wear in one or a combination of wear will seriously reduce the function of the PAS in one direction. It will normally be good in the other. Replace items or drill out to fit larger pins etc.

Thanks David. The power steering functioned properly with the original valve. I am confused as to why it has an issue with the new valve. The first new valve leaked, but only allowed power assist to the left also.

I saw your remarks in a previous forum about wear in the upper mechanism and linkage, and assumed that could be my problem.

Thanks again,

Jay

Hi Jay,
Yes, it is essential that there is no play in the linkage. It can be drilled and new lins etc fitted. Get it right and it will probably be better than new parts. The new ones are not likely to be genuine MF so may not have such close tolerances.

I got the issue resolved. Had to lengthen the control rod just a bit. Would not function with rod connected to valve as manual instructs.

Thanx for the hlpe.
