MF261 steering -what did I just break?

Hi All,

Just removed my steering cylinder pivot pin (note: not the pivot pin(s) in the axle) and put a new one in. Started turning the steering wheel to change the angle of the "arm" (upper steering arm)to give access to the bolt holes on the end of the steering cylinder so that I could put those bolts back in.

But instead of the usual resistance when turning the steering wheel, it spins freely, and the "arm" isn't moving out of the way. Is that because I don't have the bolts in? Or did I just break something?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Replying to myself to let everyone know that I didn't break anything. Hooking up the battery made everything operate normally. To be fair there is a new "normal." When cranking the steering wheel all the way to the left (for accessing those bolt holes) the steering wheel never completely stops. It's possible to keep turning it left "forever." Once the bolts were in and the battery back in its normal spot I test drove it. It feels like a whole new tractor. The steering is incredibly smooth and responsive.
