Hi,

I'm normally on the N forum but have a 1965 MF 59 Rotary Cutter.
I was taking the output end of the gearbox apart to change the seal and discovered a broken CAP with the seal shoulder half broken away. So I'm looking for this gearbox part.

Thanks,
Terry

It is called the
Output Shaft CAP

Which Seal did you end up using? mine leaks and I need to replace it. Thanks.

Hi,

It came out of Chicago. I'll see if I can find the number.
It looked a little different than a typical axle seal.

Still looking and not sure if this actual Massey 59 number was the number on my seal.

I think what i did was order the red one and didn't like something about it.

this shows the inside of typical seal and correct one.
The inside of the correct seal has that extra metal guard, which maybe minimizes the pressure of the gear oil being thrown at the seal. (?)
It may be a deeper casing too.

If you have a wear line on the shaft you may be able to position the new seal so that the neoprene lip has new surface.

I went through that with a rear seal on my 3/4 ton '51 Chev last spring. I replaced the seal and it still leaked. I thought i had blown the installation cause i got it a little cocked and then gave it a good whack on the high side to square it up . . . so I installed another one. Still leaked but i didn't think it was the seal this time. I Installed a hardened Stainless Speedy Sleeve
on the axle flange where the seal rides and it saved the day.

I don't see anything on that seal that tells me what part it is, I can't find the exact massey part that matches and the cross references i found just dont look right. do you know the sizeing on it so i can search for one? Thanks.

None of the ones I have found, have the extra metal part on the inside of the seal, even the metal ones I found look like the red one.

I'm pretty sure that [b:4494d7a20f]Island Tractor on Vancouver Island[/b:4494d7a20f] ordered it for me. I bought the Cutter used from them.
So If you find them on line, phone and give them that original Ferguson part number . . . that's probably what i did . . . and they brought one in from Chicago they said.

I'm really surprised I can't find the number or invoice or anything.
I usually keep good track of those details so it won't be a hassle in the future.

Measure your shaft and the OD and depth of the seal seat.

Zoom in on this photo of the original that I removed.
