Hello from England! I have an imported massey ferguson 2805. But I'm not sure if that's what it really is. The diesel tank is steel and the exhaust is very close to the cab. The serial number is 9R 000079. Could it be a 2800? And is there any way to find out what it really is. Thanks adam

There is another thread on this web site titled Differences between MF 2805 and MF 2800. It provides some interesting information and based
upon the discussions it sounds like you have a 2800 that was updated to a 2805. Based upon your serial number, muffler close to the cab and
steel fuel tanks it appears to be a 2800. The 2805 serial numbers started with 9R000733 and yours is obviously earlier than that. Check out
the other thread.

Thanks fgp for the reply to my question. I found the archived thread you mentioned. one guy states that there was only 26 2800s made. Any one know of a massey ferguson dealer in America I could contact that might be able to confirm just how many were made? The fergie dealers in England can't tell me.thanks again adam

My father was a Massey dealer during this time period and I have a 1992 North American Dealers Assoc. official guide book from the dealership. According to the book, they do not list any serial numbers for the 2800's. However they list serial numbers for each year beginning in 1976 through 1983 for the 2805's. Apparently that is how Massey kept track of them. The book states in the tractor value section that the 2800's were built in 1976 & 1977. In 1978 they changed to the 2805. Serial numbers for 1976 go from 9R000001 - 9R000091. 1977 goes from 9R000092 to 9R000732. 1978 begins with 9R000733. This indicates that yours was the 79th tractor built in 1976 and it came from the factory as a 2800. It most likely was updated as part off the factory recall update program and rebadged as a 2805.

Another interesting fact is the 2800 tractors sold for $35,562 list price here in the states. The 2505 list price was $60,198. As was mentioned in the other thread, the 2805 was the 2800 with the factory improvements, a relocated muffler and plastic fuel tanks.

Pull your 2805 decal on hood back and I bet your 2800 decal is underneath it......I had a 2800 rebadged as a2805 and all they did is slap the new hood decal over the old!
Hope you didn't spend a lot on it cause other than the engine and a nice cab you didn't get much!

The 2800's and many of the 1978 model year 2805's had steel fuel tanks painted red. The dash indicator lights were also a yellow bubble type dome instead of the flat black cover. I have a dealer catalog with a photo of the 2800 if needed. I can scan it.

Hello from Scotland
Not many of these in the UK, two or three i think and one in Ireland. I have what i think is the only one in Scotland, nice to have something a bit different. Drop me a message and we can discuss if you wish.

This is an original 2805. You muffler should be closer to the cab window and on the right side if it was a 2800. By your serial number, it should have been a 2800. Another item that may tell if any updates were done is if the air conditioner has a steel line draining water condensation over the top step into the cab.

(reply to post at 15:36:500 hello bill yes they are a bit different that's for sure. I'm not sure how to send you a message on here can you tell me how cheers adam.5/10/15)

thanks for the info I'm sure it's a 2800 now As I've just had a closer look at the cab plate near your feet and it says to suit tractor model 2800

The 2770 and 2800 were such disasters for Massey that you cannot even find tracks of them in new parts book. Even to look at a 2800 tractor, you have to search for a 2805 in the parts book!

I have never seen a 2800 with the original decals, but I believe it would be nice to restore one with the original decals.

hello that's my plan. I want to put the sickers back to original 2800.i need to sort the engine out first. As it's started mixing oil and water
