FERGUSON 135 STUCK IN REVERSE

My old tractor will sometimes lock in gear if I pull up on the shifter lever when I am
shifting.

I just had to teach myself not to pull up on the shifter lever when shifting.

Shifter rods are worn, must be replaced to stop the problem.

I've had this happen on a 240, i.e. main shift jam in gear.

Make sure the shifter is TIGHT (threaded lock ring around base) and not twisted. I had it jam between gears a couple of times.

If it works lose like happened to me, the shifter will actually twist a bit on top of the trans housing, but still work until it moves TOO far and then it will lock gears.

I think it has happened to many owners of 135's. I've had it happen to me once but knew how to fix it right away from previous reading about it here.

If I remember correctly, Big Dean suggested shifting the transmission lever with the open palm of your hand only, this will reduce the chance of locking the transmission in two gears.

I assume this what has happened to you. I tried to find his old website, but was not able to do so.

The reverse, 1, 2, 3 shifter lever has a spring on the underside to hold the shifter into the rails. If you lift up on the shift lever while moving it you run the chance of lifting out of the rail which sticks it in gear. I use the palm of my hand to shift while applying a little downward pressure, and I never had one get stuck in gear.
