Here's my delima.

Dad had major heart surgery 3 years back and we were forced to lease the property to farm. Dad's 2745 was parked and had remained in the shed until yesterday. Its been parked for the entire 3 years.
Yesterday, the forward/reverse shaft in the round "drum" started to show leaking of fluid and the low/high powershift felt like it was in a bind. Almost as if they were in 2 speeds on the 24 speed. Intermediate is fine and I know thats the normal for that selection. My question is this... Has anyone pulled the drum for service without splitting the tractor for major work to replace the o-rings and seals. Can it be done without tearing into the whole thing?
Dad refuses to have a desire to off load the tractor and I know all about the bad rap for the 24 speeds. This one started leaking which appears to have an effect on the operation too. [/quote]

I do have the service manual and it does give the suspected problem, but it does not talk about the method to repair except assuming the tractor is already apart. I do not have the ability to put a gauge on it to test pressures at this time, but it seems to be fine for hydraulics.

Forward and reverse are a separate part of the trans mission than the high low. I
don't think the two issues are related. Intermediate is spring applied, high and low
are hydraulic engaged while intermediate is pressure disengaged. My tractor acts
up in the high low department during the winter due to water in the oil. I am
assuming that is not your problem at the moment, but a pressure issue of some
sort.

I don't have my books at the moment, so I can't say if you can pull the shifter cover,
but I think you can.

You talking about the shift cover on the right side, just drain the oil and can unbolt it and get it off, need to
loosen the clamp on the shaft for the gear shift, and the cover comes off fairly easy. putting it back on takes a
little doing. I would say pressure test the power shift first.

(quoted from post at 16:50:32 04/30/15) You talking about the shift cover on the right side

Yes, the shift cover. The vertical shaft is leaking oil out the top showing oil coming from the top. I just didn't want the thing to fly apart if I take it loose to inspect and repair. Thanks for the response!

You might try operating the powershift with the tractor stopped, idling with the clutch pushed in. Since the tractor was working fine before it was parked, condensation in the system could have caused some corrosion causing the seals/clutches to hang up. With the clutch pushed in and cycling it through all three speeds may help without causing any clutch damage that will happen if you try to drive it around.

I doubt if the leak on the shifter shaft has anything to do with it. The powershift is operated by an external hydraulic valve in front of the cover.

2459.2 original hours on a working tach. But shifting with the clutch depressed did not change anything today. Looks like either I get to look up parts or dad is going to decide to have the whole thing gone through by a dealer. I will be doing a repaint on it soon too.
