Need help for a 6.354 Perkins

I've got a 6.354.3 for sale out of a White 8800 combine. I had a guy contact me about possibly using it in a MF tractor of his (didn't state the model). He said that his has a 1-bolt balancer, mine has a 3-bolt. He said the 1-bolt is splined to run the hydraulic pump.

Is this true? Can it be made to work? Has anyone on here ever done a swap like that? I just don't want the guy to end up with a motor he can't use, but if he can, I'd like to help him out. So, any information that I can give the guy would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

For a tractor he probably needs a stress block since it acts as part of the frame. The block in the combine more than likely isn't a stressed block. He could probably use some of the internal parts, and probably the cylinder head. Sounds like he did some real damage to the block if he needs another one. Either that or he just wants to just swap out the engine rather than rebuilding what he has.

Ahh. Didn't think about the block being part of the frame. OK. I'll let him know about that too.

Anything else?

you wouldn't by chance be the guy I called a couple days ago??? LOL you are in central Iowa?
I called with a couple questions.. single or 3 bolt crank.. block casting number.. and the engine serial?

If so, what a small world!

I'd need to re crank your motor to make it work in my tractor.. front pulley drives the hydraulic pump... and still am trying to confirm if the block is drilled correctly for the water inlet-to-block fitting!

reason for re-cranking is your crank is 3 bolt. which means it's a keyed crankshaft. The single bolt cranks are splined. My front pulley is splined to match

Ha! Yeah, I am!

Yeah, I just like to make sure no one is in for a surprise. I know I wouldn't like to spend a bunch of money and have it not work for me.

I have found that for the Oliver stuff (probably these MH/MF guys too) this place is pretty helpful and reliable.

So, did you find anything for your tractor? As you probably read above, they recommend a "stressed block" for those tractors, unless it has a separate frame.

I could try to get you a picture of the thermostat housing if you want. What angle would work best for you?

No real leads yet on the 'exact replacement'.
the 'stress proof' block used in all tractors and some combines is definitely a good thing.. yours appears to be one. The sides of your block appear to be identical to the tractor version. (smooth)

Getting a clear picture of that elbow is going to be tough. It's right under the water pump intake elbow, bolted to the front of the block. I've been told there is different bolt patterns used. (bangs head)
There IS a casting number on it, but if you only have eagle's eyes can you make it out. I had to use my bore-scope camera to read it.
Then, I'd need to put in a splined crank. not impossible, but adds to the price! I'm facing anywhere from 300 for a used crank, up to 1100 for a quality new import piece.
LOL, still it'd be doable.. but I'm running out of time to scrounge around for an exact replacement.. and have to make a call here soon!
could you add your best pic of this casting, and another of the manifold's bolt pattern?
Thanks!

The block in the combine may not have the bosses cast into the front of the block for the front axle support to bolt on to. You really need to look at the lower front of the block to be 100% sure.

I'll try to get some pictures tonight when I get home. It might be kinda late tho. If I see any numbers, I'll try to grab them too.

300 for a crank seems really cheap. Is it any good?

So yours must have really gone boom huh?

Not sure if these pictures are what you're after or not. Let me know if you need something else.
