MF-35 Diesel Deluxe Ignition Switch

I inherited a 1962 MF 35 Diesel Deluxe from my wife's grandfather which sat in his barn for a number of years. I got it home and after replacing the fuel lift pump and starter/solenoid I have found a problem with the ignition switch. I purchased an aftermarket switch from the nearby NAPA with 4 terminals: BAT, ACC, IGN, and ST. the original switch had: 1 (connected to 2) 3, and 4. I have hunted online for information on converting the numeric terminals to the aftermarket with no success. I was hoping someone on this forum would have some info.

Thanks

The original diesel switch is for start and heat-start. Start is to the right, Heat is first position to the left which is used for 15 seconds to warm the thermostart heater in the manifold for cold starting, then further left is heat-start to engage starter. Switch is spring loaded to off position. The NAPA swich will not work for what you need..

From AGCO's parts book.

Cole-Hersee & Lucas Are Alternate Switches. Check Switch & Associated Parts Carefully Before Ordering.

Actually, the new switch could be mickey-moused to work, but there's a significant risk of burning out the the rather expensive thermostart unit.....

If the thermostart is connected to the acc terminal, and the starter solenoid to the start term, it would function.

Wired in this fashion, turning on to acc will energize the thermostart for the few seconds needed, then continuing to the start position will turn the engine over. Then the switch should be turned OFF. It could be left in the normal run position, but the risk is turning it back to the acc position, overheating and burning up the thermostart.

Definitely an emergency fix only. With my memory and dumb thumbs of late, or with another driver......I'd get the proper switch!!!!

Thanks for all your help, you confirmed what I was thinking. I went to the closest AGCO dealer today and picked up the right part, I will try to get it on this weekend.
