165 hydraulics

Our 165 is terribly slow in going down even with an implement on it. It raises like it should. We had it to a shop because it wouldn't raise a hay bine on the remote (this happened all of a sudden). It's been this way since he worked on it. It wouldn't raise the haybine again & I noticed I had gotten my pant leg caught on the selector under the seat that switches from 3 point to remote (put a cover on it & no more of that problem). Just wondering what could be wrong inside. Keith

I think that's probably the problem, it doesn't seem to make any difference. Guess I need to raise the rear end up and go in & take a look inside.

Hello Keith,
Before you think about removing the cover it would be wise to check the control spring. If it has worn and the spring is loose that will certainly prevent the 3-point working correctly.
Move the DRAFT lever to the fully lowered position. Disconnect any implement if fitted. If you have a control beam fitted, remove it. That is the wedge shaped bracket that fits between the top link attachment point and the bracket directly above the PTO. Early 165s had this bracket in a rubber bushing. Later ones had a hinge assembly.

Check the endfloat on the top link attachment point. Ideally there should be none. If there is endfloat the control spring assembly will need to be removed and serviced. Underneath the rubber boot (if not split/perished) you will see a large nut with internal grooves. On the RHS at the 3 o'clock position is a grub screw. You will need to slacken this before you can remove the nut. They can be very tight and having to heat the casting area is not uncommon before it can be removed.

Let us know what you find and we'll go to the next step.
