What have I done? Three point hitch

I have a 60's model MF35. I bought a 3 point backhoe for my Kubota, and when it would not fit, I thought I would put it on the Massey just to try it out. After a few minutes it started making thumping expensive noises in the area under the shifter. I took the attachment off but it still makes noises, and the three point bars will not go down even when I stand on them. What do you figure I have broken?

I am heartsick as I use the Massey is my "go to" tractor to pull the Kubota out when it gets stuck.

Hello,
Is the size of the backhoe compatible with your 35. When testing it did you cause the relief valve to blow by either trying to dig something that it would not or allow any of the arms to reach the end of their travel? At the point where the top link is attached to the tractor - does there appear to be anything wrong in the position of the yoke? Is there any excess end float in the yoke? Ideally there should be none. If all is well there I suspect that you might have broken the front plate on the pump. On either side of the rear centre casing you will see an oval plate retained by two nuts. These are the dowel pins that hold the pump in place. These pins can shear but it is more common for the plate that they engage in to break. This will allow the pump to turn a little and bang against the side of the casing. It does make a lot of noise. This in turn can alter the relationship of the control lever to the pump valve. Hence the 3-point drop not working. If you wish to investigate further I would suggest that you drain the oil from the transmission and remove the RH round side cover. With the cover removed you should be able to turn the body of the pump slightly if the pin/s or plate are broken.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the input. The backhoe is rated for 25 to 45 hp, but was obviously too big for the machine once I had it hooked up. This is a model that runs of the PTO.

It was so heavy that the steering was off due to not enough weight on the front wheels (nearly ran off the mountain into a pond). I was just trying it out so that I could attest that the hydraulics worked so I could sell it to someone with a larger tractor. Probably overloaded the tractor. Now that I think further about it, it seems the PTO attached to the pump was also wobbling a bit when it made the noise. Does that help? This the front plate is broken, what type of fix is that? Are parts available?

Sincere thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

I have no idea what that means. How do I check the constant pump position?

Thanks
