Massey harris 22

I inherited my grandpas massey harris 22 that he restored. After restoring it it was burning lot of oil on one cylinder and the reason why was a knock or gouge in cylinder wall. My grandpa says it does not have sleeves. What would be the best way to fix it. I was thinking have it bored out and put sleeve in to match the piston. Am I on the right track. It burns enough oil that it will foul the plug and just run on three cylinders.

Have seen that done before and is a good fix!! Its either that or find another block or engine, they are not too hard to find!! Its a continental motor 140 cu in but a 124 cu in or 162 cu in. is same engine and will bolt right in!!

I had similar problem with my 22. After checking into cost of engine rebuild, I looked around and found another good engine for $150.

yes, your on track, just find a qualified engine shop. if one cyl. is worn the rest may need attention also. then you know what you have when done.

Dennis A, I found a guy parting out a good engine from a M-H combine. I had to do some messing around switching some parts from one to the other ie: water pump, oil pan, etc. but was well worth the effort. the f-140 engines were also used in old Lincoln welding machines. Search the scrapyards. BTW, where do you live? My old complete block is available. Sam
