Voltage Regualtor markings

Wondering why the VR on my 65 is marked "L", "Batt" and "F". Obviouly I understand Batt and F for field, but what does "L" stand for? Can't find anything in my Delco Remey literature on this. My MF literature either doesn't note it or I missed it.

Huh. Well, I think normally it would be the armature tab, right? And the armature does transfer the load on gen...I think. Whatever it means I guess it may remain a mystery. Either way it's time to pull the gen itself and clean it up.

Look on the bottom of the regulator for the "A" armature terminal. "L" is for Load only ( ignition and lights ). Any voltage regulator I have ever seen have had A , F and Bat as the primary tabs and some have the L. In the absence of the L terminal the power for lights and ignition usually came from the battery via wire hooked to the battery cable to the starter.

Yes, there is a tab on the bottom of the reg Jo, but I thought is was a ground. That's the "A" tab?

This is the wiring diagram from the AGCO Parts online book for the 180 gas with generator. It shows the armature hooked the that post. Beware if you check the 180 Diesel the wire color codes are incorrect at the generator ( reversed ). Hope this helps..
